Are you Jesus?

A disabled boy on crutches was walking with a few packages under his arm. It was with great difficulty he painstakingly made his way to the railway station. All the people around him were rushing up to the station and one of them knocked down the boy. His packages scattered on to the road. The man who knocked him down was angry with the boy for walking clumsily.

Another gentleman who had been walking behind him, picked up the boy and the packages, put his crutches in place and even slipped a little money in to his hand. With a kind smile he went on his way. The boy who had not known such kindness, called out to the gentleman inquiring, "Mister, please sir, are you Jesus?"

"No," replied the Good Samaritan, "but I am one of His followers."

There is an old song we used to sing as young people -

'to be like Jesus, to be like Jesus,
all I ask is to be like Him,
all through life's journey,
from earth to glory (heaven),
all I ask is to be like Him'.

The good book says 'And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you'.

It's Good Friday

It's Good Friday

What was so good about this day that it has been permanently given this tag?

There doesn't seem too much that is good about a man being falsely accused, illegally tried and condemned to death on a cross!

That is all true until you consider why it all took place. This wasn't solely the intentions and actions of men. God was involved and indeed had planned the death of His Son to the last detail. You might think that this is a morbid way of looking at the death of Christ; but it's the truth as recorded in the word of God (the Bible).

We plan lots of events such as weddings and holidays and we might reluctantly plan a funerals but few plan their own death and if they do it's because of very sad reasons. The Father, Son and the Spirit (God) planned the death of the Lord Jesus (the Son of God) ) for very good and unavoidable reasons - there was no other way to clear the guilt of sin, maintain the holy standards of God, redeem sinful man and populate heaven (there are more, these are just some examples).

There are many verses that state this clearly in the bible. I'll leave you to look them up - John 3:16 , Mark 10:45, Romans 3:19-26 to name a few.

The biggest challenge we all face is what we do with this information. The clear commands of scripture are:

Call upon the name of the Lord.

Believe on The Lord Jesus Christ

Confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead.

The result is the same every time - you will be saved, safe and blessed for ever.

The sacrificing of infants

William Carey and fellow missionary John Thomas were riding near Malda, India, in 1794 when they saw “a basket hung in a tree, in which an infant had been exposed; the skull remained, the rest having been devoured by ants.” This “holy” act of infanticide had been committed with religious fervor by a Hindu mother.

Infanticide was not uncommon in India in Carey’s day. But the British government in India ignored such sacrifice of infants—it didn’t want to interfere in religious matters of the people. The Indian masses were ready to sacrifice their lives (and their infants’) for the sake of salvation and to escape the karma-samsara cycle. The people were intensely religious and were following (though sometimes misinterpreting) written religious laws.


William Carey strongly protested these crimes against humanity. He was one of many who prodded the apparently passive government to halt or regulate a variety of harmful social practices.

You may argue that we don't do these types of things these days but I am not so sure. The level of pro choice abortions across the world is exorbitantly high and this fact would beg the truthfulness of our claim.

God doesn't ask us to sacrifice our children (pre-birth or post-birth) and He doesn't ask us to give our own lives in martyrdom to procure salvation. In fact God 'spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all'. You may say - is God not doing what we have been told we should not do? That's a valid point but the truth is that not only does he Bible say that "the Father sent the Son to be the Saviour of the world" but it states that Jesus, the Son of God, willingly gave his life so that we might be free from the penalty of sin and know salvation (see John chapter three and chapter twelve).  

Please consider this as the only hope for this life and the next is to be found by trusting the crucified and risen, Saviour of the world, Jesus Christ.
